Font Size

US based investment firm Small Enterprise Assistance Funds (SEAF) will soon launch a $75 million fund in India focused on taking stakes in agriculture-related businesses.

The India Agribusiness Fund has 33 areas within agriculture to choose from, including agricultural inputs like seeds and agrochemicals, post-harvest opportunities such as supply-chain organizers and commodity exchanges, and also companies dealing in logistics support, food processing and food and retail services. The investments will be in small and medium industries so the average ticket size will be between $2-$6 million. Demand for agricultural products, SEAF India Investment Advisors Managing Director Hemendra Mathur said, should continue to grow, amid changing demographics, higher disposable income, the creeping in of health consciousness, the tendency towards nuclear families, the urbanization of the population seeing more people buying ready-made and higher margin foods as opposed to the basic foods consumed in the rural belt, media exposure and increasing exports of food products.

MUMBAI -- U.S.-based investment firm Small Enterprise Assistance Funds will soon launch a $75 million fund in India focused on taking stakes in agriculture-related businesses, a senior executive said.

The SEAF India Agribusiness Fund is the investment firm's first India fund and is expected to have its first close by April and its final close by the end of the year, SEAF India Investment Advisors Managing Director Hemendra Mathur told Dow Jones Newswires in a recent interview. So far, $35 million of the fund has already been raised, he said.
